by Yulia Pilula
A comics zine by Kharkiv-based artist Yulia Pilula about displacement, memory and childhood in Donbas.
"I became an internally displaced person from Donbas in 2014, on my 18th birthday. It was probably some kind of initiation rite… I made a comic about this in 2022. The collection also includes a story about Sviatohirsk — a city of nostalgia for me: there, I tell my younger sister and my Scottish stepfather good stories about Donbas. I would go to Sviatohirsk every year. Donbas, for me, is hope, memory, and childhood. And such things stay in the heart forever."
Yulia Pilula is a comics artist from Kharkiv, Ukraine. Zine printed with support of gareleya neotodryosh and Ukrainian zine community with support of Global Fund for Children.
