Malanka is a Ukrainian folk holiday celebrated on December 31, New Year's Eve according to the Gregorian calendar. Previously, it was celebrated on January 13, which corresponds to December 31 in the Julian calendar (Old New Year). Traditionally, the festivities centered around house-to-house visits by groups of young men, costumed as characters from a pre-Christian folk tale, along with special food and drink.
